What is this?
The League of Women Voters is partnering with community organizations on a Youth Voter Engagement project. The goal is to get all High School seniors in Essex County to participate in a lesson plan entitled “Why Voting Matters” and then to end with voter registration of the seniors. We have already had great success in Newark and Orange HS classrooms and so far 100% of the students opted to register to vote after the Why Voting Matters presentation. In order to make this initiative successful, there is a need for presenters of the Why Voting Matters lesson plan along with volunteers to help with the voter registration at the end of the presentation. The project also needs folks to coordinate scheduling the lesson plan classes in the High Schools with the Social Studies Department chairs and teachers. On Thursday, 12/15, from 2-4pm - there will be an initial rollout of the program with the lesson plan presented and discussion as to how best to roll out the program. All are welcome to attend to find out more about the project without an upfront commitment.
